Favorite Food	Favorite Foods –Sancocho (a Colombian soup) & Ice Cream (My 1st favorite ice cream is my mom and dad’s homemade chocolate ice cream. But if that is not available, then my next favorite is French vanilla either plain, with chocolate sauce, or with homemade rhubarb sauce) (My two favorite foods are, of course, eaten separately.)
Hidden Talent	Hidden talent –I can speak, read, write, and understand, elementary Chinese. (I hope to get back to studying this language.)
If court reporting didn't exist, I’d be...	...working at UPS. Even though I have a bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies/Foreign Languages/ International Affairs, I found a job at UPS and worked there for 5 years and loved it. (This is where I met my husband.)
Greatest non-court reporting achievement -	The best thing I’ve accomplished – I traveled to China by myself and taught English there for 10 months.
Secret desire -	To be able to earn enough money to take my husband on a Mediterranean Cruise.
Best advice I’ve ever received -	Best advice I’ve ever received - I can’t pinpoint any advice that I have received, but I can describe a philosophy that I have lived by since high school which has been responsible for the best things that have ever happened to me. The philosophy that I live by is to face my fears head-on. I do not let fear control my life. If I had backed away from things that scared me, I would never have learned to scuba dive, never would have studied abroad my junior year in college traveling through 7 Asian countries, or never would have worked in China for 10 months.
I love court reporting because...	...this profession will allow me to be my own boss and to earn enough money to enjoy life with my husband without having to over extend myself. My husband’s basic approach to life is working to live, not living to work. Before I met him, my life was the other way around. My life was dominated by work. I like my husband’s approach to life. It’s much less stressful and a lot more fun.
When I have 2 spare hours, I...	When I have 2 spare hours, I – This is one I haven’t been able to answer for the last 8 years because I really have not had that much time to myself. However, I am now reclaiming my life, and have rediscovered free time. I am finally getting a chance to read some of the many books that I have been wanting to read. Other activities I currently enjoy in my newly rediscovered spare time are cooking and yoga. I would also love to take up again former activities I once did, such as knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Favorite singer, musician or group	I love a variety of music, but if I have to pick just one, it’s got to be Sade. Vanessa Williams is a close second.
In 5 years, I will be...	...I hope to get my court reporting license by the end of 2006. I plan to work fulltime for a court reporting agency for 4 years and possibly also as a medical transcriptionist to supplement my income. In 4-5 years I want to have my school related debts paid off and have enough money saved to be able to drop back to working part-time and start working on a family.
How I discovered court reporting -	How I discovered court reporting – After 6 years of work experience as a customer service rep at a foreign currency service, a valet, a towncar driver, an ESL teacher, and a UPS package handler, I realized I had not yet found what I wanted to do for my career. However, those 6 years of work experience did teach me about certain factors associated with the majority of jobs that I did not want to deal with for the rest of my life. I was looking for a job where I could be my own boss, make a reasonable amount of money, have job security, and be able to work well into my later years. I saw an ad for a court reporting school in an employment paper, called them up, and enrolled.
Favorite Movie	It’s really hard for me to pick one movie as my all time favorite. I love foreign films, especially those from China and India. My favorite Chinese film producers are Zhang Yimo, and Cheng Kaige. My favorite movie from India is Lagaan. I recently just saw a Spanish Language film that was fabulous called the Motorcycle Diaries. For American films, I like 50 First Dates, Pirates of the Caribbean, Princess Bride, all the Star Trek Movies, and Alice in Wonderland (the Disney cartoon movie).
Favorite TV Show	Again, I cannot pick just one. My favorites are Smallvile, ER, South Park, Star Trek-The Next Generation, and Seinfeld (I know there are no more new episodes of this one, but it is still one of my favorites).
Best Court Reporting Tip -	Theory Review & Accurate Practice
Anything you want to add about yourself -	I want to get a piano so I can take lessons again. But this time I want to learn using the Susuki method of learning.
