If court reporting didn't exist, I’d be...
...trying to find an alternative career where flexibility is possible, but probably stuck in an office somewhere.
Greatest non-court reporting achievement -
I think my strongest achievement, in a way, was facing a fear by taking a job that required flying to customer sites. This was a huge step for me and I’m glad I did it.
Hidden Talent
...working on gourds, decorative painting
Secret desire -
...to write a book that becomes a bestseller overnight! Also to be successful so my husband can take a break and not work/travel so much.
Best advice I've ever received -
Don’t give up. Just keep at it and it will come.
I love court reporting because...
...of the opportunity to have a flexible schedule. I don’t want an 8 – 5 job again!
When I have 2 spare hours, I...
...play with the grandkids, work on gourds.
Favorite singer, musician or group
Windham Hill collections
In 5 years I will be...
...a CART provider and hopefully doing some closed captioning.
How I discovered court reporting -
...a newspaper article about CART. I’d previously studied sign language and it was kind of an epiphany for me – I figured this was more doable because I type fast, I’m comfortable with technology, and it didn’t seem as intense as immersing yourself in deaf culture the way you have to with ASL translation. Now I know my first impressions were not exactly correct, but that’s still my goal.
Favorite Movie
Lord of the Rings
Favorite TV Show
HGTV
Best Court Reporting Tip -
Hopefully it’ll be starting this program!
Anything you want to add about yourself -
I’ve been amazed at how much being an online student and learning theory and early speedbuilding on my own has shaken my self confidence! I’ve always been a confident person, but starting this journey has been an eye opener and very intense. It’s so easy to second guess yourself when you’re out here by yourself. I’ve read where court reporting training is more of a mind game than anything else, and I agree with that. Maintaining a positive attitude every day and getting the negative thoughts out of your head is a full time job!
